Eid Mubarek & Getting ready for a new school year!

Assalamu Allaykum dear parents!

I pray that you and your families had a terrific Eid!

Just so you know, the Grade 2 teachers this year are both fabulous and are getting ready to take on last year’s awesome grade One classes!

The classroom teacher for the Rainbow Explorers will be Teacher Fatima, a very experienced and caring teacher who has worked in the field for 11 years. She is looking forward to continuing our fantastic journey of learning and discovery.

Have a wonderful year and I can’t wait to see the students again, insha’Allah!

Ramadan Mubarek to the Rainbow Explorers and their families!

Assalamu Allaykum everyone!

Just a quick Ramadan Greeting to the wonderful Rainbow Explorers! I hope that all the children are having a wonderful summer and getting refreshed before going back to school in a month or so.

Please send my salaams to every one!

Also, please check out this wonderful Ramadan kit for children which includes great charts to encourage Quran recitation, and fasting (whatever little the children can do!):

http://www.mini-mumin.com/RK.html

On the same website, you can also go to the reading room to read great stories about Ramadan and much more!

May Allah Subhan’wa Taala Accept our fasts, and good deeds.

Tr. Amira

Congratulations Rainbow Explorers Grade One Graduates!

Assalamu Allaykum Dear Parents,

I am grateful to Allah Subhan’wa Taala for honouring me with the opportunity to teach this bright group of students.

We have had a lovely year together and I will look back fondly on our experiences. I hope the students will also have good memories.

Monday is officially the last day (ending at noon) but most students consider Friday to be the final day insha’Allah. Monday, teachers will primarily be packing up our classes.

Report cards will be handed out tomorrow, Friday, insha’Allah. If you have any comments or questions about them, or about any other issue, please email me and I will respond promptly.

I would sincerely like to thank all parents for their ongoing support towards their child, as well as to the classroom as a whole.

As you know, parents are key to children’s success.  I encourage you to provide opportunities for the students to visit each other as several deep friendships have formed in our class  (let me know if you would like any particular student’s contact so that I can ask their parent for permission to disclose). Also be sure to visit the library often to promote a love of books that will last them a lifetime, insha’Allah.

Finally, if any good came from this year, it is all from Allah Subhan’wa Taala; all mistakes are my own.

Sincerely,

Tr. Amira

Housekeeping Note:

Please send a large and strong plastic bag in which the students can pack up their many school books and folders. Thank you.

Important Updates!

Assalamu Allaykum dear parents,

As you may know, the students are gearing up for the End-of-Year Celebration this Friday night insha’Allah.

Our class will be performing the story “The Prince Who Wrote a Letter”.

Thanks to those who have already sent along props to go with the play. Our dress rehearsal will be on Friday morning (there will be an early dismissal, too).

Please note that I have spoken to Teacher Asma’a, the organizer of the event, and she has agreed:

Our class does not need  to wear uniforms before or after the performances. So students please come to school with your costume on (but keep props in a bag).  Children can change if they choose to after their performance.

Please ask your child what their role is, and if they need any help with their costume.  Soldiers should be wearing light coloured shirts and dark pants.

If anyone has some aluminum foil to spare, please also send it to school with your child.

It would be great to have one or two parent volunteers the night of the event to help out. Please email me if you are interested or comment here.

Housekeeping notes:

I have found a JUMP Math Book Part 2 in the class. None of the students said it was theirs, but if you notice your child is missing theirs, please let me know.

Drawing / Writing Contest about our field trip to the Children’s Festival

The Children’s Festival is inviting all students who attended a show this year to draw or write about their experience for a contest.

The winner will win a free day at the festival next year, insha’Allah. As I know we have a very talented class, el hamdullilah, please consider working on something with your child by next Tuesday, June 21.

I will collect all the entries and mail it to the school coordinator, insha’Allah.

Sincerely,

Tr. Amira

“Grade One Country project”

Assalamu-alaikum!!!

 Parents/Guardians,

This time our presentations will take us on a tour around the world, each child will have a chance to talk about his/her favourite country (it does not have to be his/her country of origin), I would like your full support and help in assisting your child in deciding on his/her favourite country.

Your child will be asked to make a poster which will mainly have the country’s name, map, where it is located, the flag, and important information that your child might feel he/she wants to add… pictures will be great… all of this will be used as a visual-aid!!!

I do require your full support, in order for this project to be a successful one. The students can go to the library (which is extremely useful and fun), as well as/or surf the internet for information about their chosen country.

The students will have a couple of minutes to present (please encourage your child to present the information, not read it) the following information orally (any other information your child might want to add, is going to be more than welcome, keeping in mind that the students are only in grade one):

Assalamu-alaikum my friends!
My favourite country is_____________.

It is located in ______________________. (Mention the continent)
This is the flag of __________, it is ___________________. (Mention the colours)
This is the map of___________. (Pointing)
They speak ______________ in _______________. (Mention the language)

_______________________________. (something interesting about the country)

Any other information will be appreciated. (may be showing and talking about the pictures… talking about food… talking about clothes they wear…)
Assalamau-alaikum!!!

Then they will be given a chance to answer five questions their classmates might have for them.

Please help (only help out, please) your child create something as a visual aid, a poster with pictures about the country (magazine picture, print out, drawing, etc.) and the information required. Please make sure that the name of your child is on all his/her work.

I know that this might be challenging for some students, but I am sure everyone can do it, if he or she tries hard enough, inshallah!

Please feel free to contact me by email , sending me a comment directly here (which I do not have to post publicly) or by phone and/or by writing me a note if you have any concerns.

Jazakum-Allah kheir,

Teacher Amira

***NOTE: The poster is due on each child’s presentation day, inshallah!!!

(Please find the schedulewith the homework package.)

Parent-Volunteers for this week’s field trip

Assalamu Allaykum dear parents,

I have contacted three of the parents who volunteered to confirm whether or not they can come to the trip on Thursday.

Parents of chidren who have never had either parent accompany them on a field trip took priority.

However, I am inquiring if there are extra seats for the performance for parents who still wish to meet us at the festival.

I will let those parents know insha’Allah.

All parents must be sure to send a bottle of water with their child on Thursday, as well as a wholesome lunch.

Thank you!

Tr. Amira

Great website + Surprise Bag!

Assalamu Allaykum dear parents,

First, I’d like you all to check out this great website:

http://www.mini-mumin.com/ReadingRoom.html

Of particular interest for our class is the book on Wudu.

Please read it with your child and go over the wudu with them as several students are challenged by the steps and could always use practice to reinforce our lessons    :  )

Other note: Surprise Bag for the End of the Year

We are creating a Suprise Bag to fill with little treats to share at the end of the school year.  Please feel free to donate any small items like balloons, little toys from the Dollar Store, etc.  The students will share the contents of the bag together to say goodbye on the last day of school (students who are leaving earlier, insha’Allah, can get their treat before they go!)

It’s been a great year, and we look forward to the final month ahead! Don’t forget to inform the school if you are planning to leave before the end of the school year!

Many thanks,

Tr. Amira

Math Unit Quiz tomorrow & other reminders

Assalamu Allaykum dear parents,

I pray you all had a restful long week-end.

We are wrapping our numeracy unit and many of the students were able to complete our last task. However, a number of students had difficulty with page 74 of their Math Book.

Just to be sure that the children understod the unit, I have sent home their mathbooks (of those who were struggling) today so that they can review that page. I will do a final quiz tomorrow to make sure they understand the required concepts.

Other Reminders

Please be sure that LIBRARY books are returned this week as the library is now preparing to shut down for the summer. All books must be returned insha’Allah.

I will be contacting parents who volunteered for the Festival to confirm whether or not they will be able to join us. We had more volunteers than we have space for, masha’Allah, so as always, priority will go to those parents who have not gone on trips before. The actual puppet show is likely sold out, but if parents really want to come to accompany us during other parts of the festival, they are certainly welcome to meet us there.

Thanks for all your support. Jazak’Allahu Kheiran.
